Presenting the Scottish Perspective

Organisers of a high-level healthcare conference of UK and European chief officers were accustomed to receiving speeches in person from Westminster government ministers and short video messages from the politicians and business leaders who could not attend. A couple of weeks before their annual gathering we were asked to arrange for Scottish Government input into the event.

Approach

Having established what sort of input was required, we contacted the appropriate sponsoring department within the Scottish Government civil service outlining the request and explaining the opportunity that input into the conference would offer ministers as part of the bigger picture of their encouragement of the life sciences sector. We were then invited to make arrangements direct with the Cabinet Secretary’s private office.

Outcome

At an agreed time we set up the HDV camera equipment we use for media training in the Garden Lobby of the Scottish Parliament and recorded a three minute piece to camera by the Cabinet Secretary for Health that was subsequently played to delegates at the conference.
