Malaysian Pavilion at the Edinburgh Festival

With our contact in Kuala Lumpur we conceived a strategy to promote Malaysia as a ‘front of mind’ travel destination during the Edinburgh International Festival. The timing was chosen to take advantage of the influx of domestic as well as international visitors to Edinburgh during the August festival period and tie this into celebrations of Malaysia’s 50th anniversary of nationhood.

Our Approach

We worked with council and Scottish Government officials to secure permits and a central location for the Pavilion as well as the presence of the External Affairs Minister at the official launch. We supplied speeches for dignitaries, managed themed events, guest lists and the UK and Malaysian PR campaign all the while liaising with Kuala Lumpur and Tourism Malaysia’s office in London.

Outcome

Well over 15,000 guests visited the Pavilion in the four days it was open to the public. Scotland’s potential as a Malaysian tourism target market was enhanced; significant coverage of the Pavilion and themed events was achieved in local and national print and electronic media both in the UK and Malaysia.
